Our Story

IROC was formed by a small group of enthusiasts who wanted awesome singletrack in our northwoods backyard. We started with the Maple Hill trails just south of Hibbing, and then branched out to Lookout Mountain just north of Virginia. We knew these trails were really good, but we always wanted more for our area, which lead to the concept of the Red Head Mountain Bike Park.

See more information on our three different ride centers below.

REDHEAD Mountain Bike Park
CHISHOLM, MN

Carved out of the walls of an abandoned iron mine pit, Redhead is like nothing you’ve ever ridden.

Redhead is a cooperative effort between IROC, The City of Chisholm, and The Minnesota Discovery Center. The Funding for the trail system came from the Department of Iron Range Resources which utilizes taxes generated by mining to foster vibrant growth and economic prosperity in northeastern Minnesota.

Maple Hill

Maple Hill Park in Hibbing consists of 160 acres of forest lands upon a naturally occurring glacial drumlin. This unique geological setting gives the park a rolling highland terrain that is a refuge for maples, oaks and other hardwood species that do not commonly grow wild in other parts of the central Iron Range. The park is also home to deer, foxes, beaver, barred owls and other wildlife.

Single-tracked trails for mountain biking, hiking and snowshoeing are hand-built and maintained by volunteers from the Iron Range Offroad Cyclists. The Upper Trail is an intermediate to advanced 3.6-mile single-track loop that starts at the upper parking lot and slaloms across the rocky, rooty terrain of the hilltop. The Lower Trail is 2.2-mile single-track beginner loop that originates at the lower parking lot, traverses the base of the hill and circumnavigates a small pond.  There is a 0.2-mile connector trail that links the Upper Trail to the Lower Trail just west of the pond.

The park also features 2.5 miles of double-tracked trails, donated benches at various scenic overlooks and a plot of reintroduced white pines that were planted by local volunteers.  At one time, the City of Hibbing operated a ski-slide on the southern slope of the hill which is still sometimes used by intrepid sledders in the winter.Check out Trailforks for more info!
